January Training Weekend

January’s training weekend took us to Capel Curig, and Plas Y Brenin played host to over 28 Handlers and Bodies and of course the dogs!

Some excellent progress was made by our Open Area dogs, with Search Dog ‘Spin’ celebrating her 12th birthday in style working well on the lower slopes of the Glyderau. A special mention has to go to to trainee Search Dog ‘Ben’ and Handler Alex along with trainee Search Dog ‘Matt’ and Handler Mark from Search and Rescue Dog Association (Isle of Man) who cleared several areas between them and are now going forward for their pre-assessment next month.

Our trailing dogs also had a fantastic weekend, working trails of various complexities and age over different terrains. Trailing Dogs ‘Boris’, ‘Skye’ worked a trail each, searching fir bodies John and Catherine who had walked together and then split off in opposite directions. Both dogs correctly identified the trails of their scent articles found successfully, a great achievement. Search dog ‘Izzy’ also worked hard over slippery rocks and moss to find body Charlie. Trainee Trailing Dog ‘Ginger’ and Luci progressed to stage 16 and trails of greater complexities, and trainee Trailing Dog ‘Sion’ successfully worked onto human scent swabs and a human line up.

As always, thank you to our Dogsbodies and also to Plas Y Brenin for accommodating us!
